Our Story
My father, Bill Kokenge, had a story about how he bought the family set of china. Every time my mother, Dolly, brought it out for special occasions, he'd look around the table and say, "Did I ever tell you how I got this china?"

We'd groan. We'd roll our eyes. Not that story again.

Then he died. And I was standing in a thrift store one afternoon, staring at a shelf of old dishes, and it hit me:
I had never actually heard that story. By the time I came along — the youngest of seven kids — it was so old he'd stopped telling it. My siblings either never heard it, couldn't remember it, or only knew pieces of it. My mother remembered one thing: that even though he shipped that china home from overseas, only a single cup handle broke in transit. The rest of the story is gone.

I would give almost anything to hear him tell that story. In his own voice. In his own words.

That moment is what led me to sit down with my mother and interview her — to capture her stories, her memories, and her voice before any more time slipped away. And it's what led me to build LifeVersations. Because I don't want that to happen to your family.

Your voice and your stories should never be lost to time.

Why me

I spent more than 30 years in broadcasting — 15 of them as host of NPR's All Things Considered at Northwest Public Broadcasting. Over that time I interviewed a wide range of people: musicians, politicians, artists, executives, governors, the famous, and everyday people with extraordinary stories to tell.

What those years taught me is this: a great interview isn't about the person asking the questions. It's about the person answering them. My job is to do the research, earn your trust, listen actively, and ask the question that opens the door to the story you've been waiting to tell — and the story your family has been waiting to hear.

I am not the important one here. You are.

What you receive

Every LifeVersations interview is built around the person being recorded — their life, their memories, and the stories that matter most. We'll cover the full arc: where they came from, what shaped them, what they built, and what they want the people who come after them to know. When we're finished, you receive a professionally produced audio recording delivered as both an MP3 and a private podcast — ready to share with the people who love them most.

Whether this is a gift for someone you love or a record of your own life, it is worth your time, your investment, and your trust — and I do not take that trust lightly.
